The publication of a new Latin military inscription from Umm al-Quṭṭayn in northeast Jordan is an opportunity to review the history of this site which belonged to the territory of Bostra, capital city of the province of Arabia, following the annexation of the Nabataean kingdom to the Roman Empire. This dedication refers to the construction of a dovecote tower by a protector subordinate to the duke Flavius Severinus and active in the region during the reign of Emperor Constantine I (306-337 CE). It provides additional information on the troops stationed in Auranitis in imperial times and on their strategic role in defending the limes Arabicus.
